Every year on the first Monday in May, fashionistas and pop culture enthusiasts alike are treated to one of the most exclusive events of the year: the Met Gala. The 2019 event takes place on May 6—and while many A-listers—ranging from Lady Gaga to Serena Williams—are confirmed to attend, other regulars are noticeably absent from the guest list. Keep reading to discover which big names you probably won't see at the 2019 Met Gala.

1 Rihanna

Could it be that the queen of the Met Gala itself isn't attending this year? Though Rihanna has attended the event eight times since 2007, the signs right now are all pointing to yes. Recently an invite list began to circulate on Twitter sans the singer's name. Then, a fan allegedly asked Rihanna on Instagram if she was excited about the Met Gala and they apparently received the response, "Nah."

Though Rihanna herself hasn't confirmed or denied the rumors to the press, fans are already mourning the loss of one of the Met Gala's most iconic influencers.

2 Sarah Jessica Parker

Though Sex and the City alumna Sarah Jessica Parker has been the star of the Met Gala red carpet in the past (she's been to 10—10!—Met Galas so far), you shouldn't expect to see her this year. Why? Parker's close friend Andy Cohen revealed to Entertainment Tonight (ET) just days before the event that she'll be "on a plane somewhere."

Cohen won't be attending the Met Gala without his other half. In the same ET interview, he told reporters that he wouldn't be at the annual fashion event either, as he has to film his show Watch What Happens Live.

4 Ariana Grande

Another friendly face that's expected to be missing from the Met Gala this year is Ariana Grande. As Elle noted, the "7 Rings" singer—who made her Met Gala debut in 2018—has concerts in Los Angeles scheduled for both May 6 and May 7. So it would be impossible for the pop star to both perform and make an appearance at the Met Gala.

5 Selena Gomez

Actress and singer Selena Gomez has attended the Met Gala every year since 2014. But her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo, confirmed on Instagram that Gomez—who got some flack for her Met Gala outfit in 2018—won't be attending this year.

6 Jessica Chastain

Though her name was originally on the list of attendees, it appears as though actress Jessica Chastain is no longer attending the 2019 Met Gala. When a fan account reached out to the actress's stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, on Instagram and asked whether or not she'd be present, she sadly responded with a "no :(." Chastain delivered some breathtaking looks at the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Met Galas, though she was also absent from last year's event.

7 Amanda Seyfried

Mamma Mia actress Amanda Seyfried lit up the Met Gala red carpet in 2015 and 2018. However, you shouldn't expect to see her at this year's event. Though the celebrity is on the Met Gala benefit committee list that's been circulating on Twitter, her facialist, Gavin McLeod-Valentine, confirmed on Instagram that she would not be attending this year's Met Gala.

8 Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson was scheduled to make her first Met Gala appearance this year since 2015. However, Page Six reports that due to the funeral of Boyz n the Hood director and close friend John Singleton, the actress unfortunately has to miss out on the annual event.

9 Meghan Markle

Though there were rumors circulating that royal sisters-in-law Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle might attend the Met Gala together this year, we can't imagine you'll see the latter on a red carpet anytime soon. On May 6, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed via Instagram that they had welcomed a baby boy into the world. So it's safe to say Markle's priorities have shifted.
